Every Dentist Needs Your Help Keeping Your Teeth Healthy

A Pre-Food Routine That Will Ensure You Never Lose Your Invisalign Retainer Again

Losing a retainer is a common occurrence for some wearers. If you tend to wrap your retainer in a napkin it is more obscure and easy to throw away. Retainers tend to be costly, especially since they must be fitted to your teeth. To keep up with your smile goals and make sure that your retainer remains in your possession, you should develop a before or after-dinner routine that will help you keep your Invisalign in your possession. Here is a good pre and post-food routine that will help keep your retainer safe and sound.

Carry a case in every purse or bag and in your vehicle

Instead of spending money on new retainers, you should spend the money on several different cases for your Invisalign retainers. Retainer cases are of nominal cost and it is worth buying several to place in each bag that you use on a regular basis. You should also keep one inside of your vehicle so that you have it in case you are going out without your bags. If you are headed inside a restaurant or another place where you plan to eat or drink, bring the case with you in order to have a proper place to leave your retainer. It is much more difficult to lose a colored, hard-case retainer than it is to lose a napkin-wrapped retainer.

Take the retainer out and place the case in a safe place

Before you eat or drink, go to the restroom to remove your Invisalign retainer. Rinse out the retainer and make sure that it is clean before you place it inside the case. Put the case inside of a safe place, such as your purse, your pocket, or another place where it won't fall out. Be sure that this is done before you sit down to eat so that you won't forget to put up your retainer when you are eating and socializing.

Set a retainer near your keys rule

After dinner, before you are leaving your location be sure to physically look at the retainer case to make sure that you are taking it with you. One of the best ways to remember the retainer is to make it a rule to put the retainer near where you keep your keys. You will always need your keys to get inside your car or inside your home, so you won't forget your Invisalign if it is near another necessary item.

About Me

Every Dentist Needs Your Help Keeping Your Teeth Healthy

When I was a child and teenager, I always left the dentist's office with the great feeling of having no cavities. When I went away to college out-of-state, I had to switch to a new dentist in my area. It seemed like I was suddenly getting cavities and started wonder what my new dentist "was doing wrong". When I spoke to my mother about it, she reminded me that the reason I never had cavities when I was living it home was because she always made sure my siblings and I brushed and flossed daily and didn't eat too much sugar. I then realized that my late-night study sessions drinking sugary soda and my suddenly bad brushing habits were the true causes of my cavities. I have since learned a lot more about dental health I am eager to share with anyone who needs the advice!
