Every Dentist Needs Your Help Keeping Your Teeth Healthy

The Cost Of Dental Implant Surgery

Dental implants are a great way to replace missing teeth. Unlike other tooth-replacement options, the implant uses your jawbone directly for support, which makes the tooth durable and strong. If you are interested in getting a dental implant, consider the costs of dental implant surgery.

Tooth Extraction

Teeth need to be pulled for many reasons: severe decay, infection, and improper growth. Depending on the tooth, you may need a simple or a surgical extraction. Simple extractions require no incisions, and they are cheaper than surgical extractions.

Surgical extractions require an incision and stitches. The stitches usually dissolve on their own overtime. Surgical extractions are needed when the tooth is impacted, not fully erupted, or severely damaged. On average, a simple extraction costs about $75 to $300, and a surgical extraction can cost between $150 and $650.

Gum Disease Treatment

If you have untreated gum disease, which is a leading cause of tooth loss, your dentist will insist on getting your gum disease under control before getting dental implants. Dental implants need a strong jawbone and strong gums. Mild gum disease is treated with deep cleaning and antibiotic treatments to kill the infection. Deep cleaning costs about $140 to $300, but your insurance may cover some of the cost.

If you have advanced gum disease, treatment begins the same: with cleaning and antibiotics. However, advanced gum disease often presents with large gum pockets and gum loss. So, you may need a surgical pocket reduction or a gum graft. A surgical pocket reduction costs about $1,000 to $3,000. The gum graft costs about $600 to $1,200.

Bone Graft

A bone graft is needed if the jawbone has atrophied, which usually happens for two reasons: gum disease and tooth loss. Without something to stimulate the jawbone, it shrinks, and the more teeth you have missing, the more the jawbone shrinks. At the same time, gum disease attacks the jawbone, causing the bone to become weak.

A bone graft is used to make your jawbone strong again and promote tissue growth. It costs about the same as a gum tissue graft. Plus, once the implant is inserted, it will keep the jawbone stimulated.

Dental Implant

Once your jaw is ready, the implant can be placed. A single implant costs about $2,400 to $3,000, but you can choose alternative options like implant-supported bridges and implant-supported dentures. These are more expensive because they replace more than one tooth, but you'll save money overall.

The best part: dental implants are incredibly durable, so it could last the rest of your life. Depending on how well you care for the crown, you may need to occasionally replace the crown.

If you're sick of having missing teeth, it may be time to consider dental implants. Dental implants are a durable way to replace missing teeth, and they keep the jawbone strong. If you would like to know more, contact a dental implant surgeon.

About Me

Every Dentist Needs Your Help Keeping Your Teeth Healthy

When I was a child and teenager, I always left the dentist's office with the great feeling of having no cavities. When I went away to college out-of-state, I had to switch to a new dentist in my area. It seemed like I was suddenly getting cavities and started wonder what my new dentist "was doing wrong". When I spoke to my mother about it, she reminded me that the reason I never had cavities when I was living it home was because she always made sure my siblings and I brushed and flossed daily and didn't eat too much sugar. I then realized that my late-night study sessions drinking sugary soda and my suddenly bad brushing habits were the true causes of my cavities. I have since learned a lot more about dental health I am eager to share with anyone who needs the advice!
